Hi everyone! Welcome to my new blog post series where I discuss essential topics from my stories. For Bell Let’s Talk Day, I have posted a short story called “Piercing the Darkness” which is about a young girl’s struggle to overcome bullying and suicide. You can access the story through this link. Click here to access the story.
We can experience bullying in all stages and areas of life, not just elementary school. We may have experienced it in our homes, schools, workplaces, churches, or even friend groups. Bullying can take many forms including cyber, physical, verbal etc… Here is a great site for children and teenagers.
This website is great for adults who have experienced bullying.
Personally, I have experienced bullying throughout my life from elementary school, to my time at university on the east coast, and even at church. For today, I’ll be talking about my experiences in elementary school where I almost committed suicide because of the bullying I endured from my classmates. Sound familiar? That’s because this story was based on my own life experience with a twist: What if I had told my parents I was struggling with suicide?
Imagine some place or something you love; now consider what would happen if your desire to be a part of it drained a little bit each day as people or depression took the joy out of it. For me, this place was school; it was where I loved to learn , play sports, and hang out with friends. However, as the bullying became worse throughout grade eight, my love for learning dissipated to the point where I didn’t even want to attend school anymore. If it wasn’t for God intervening in my life, I wouldn’t be here today.
