Stand Strong: Protecting Canada’s Legacy of Freedom

Hello everyone! For those of you who know me, you know I stay out of politics. I only get involved during elections when it is time to vote. However, when I see history repeating itself, I need to stand up and speak against what is going on. It is time to wake up and stand our ground since Trump has declared war on Canada threatening to take over our country. Otherwise, our country will no longer be strong and free. Have we forgotten the sacrifices the past soldiers have fought in the battle of 1812 when we last fought the Americans? Or when we gained our independence from Britain becoming our own country in 1867? What about the lives sacrificed in WW1 and WW2 to keep the peace and freedom that our country is known for? Have we forgotten?

Canada is so heavy on my heart. My ancestors escaped to Canada from the Bolsheviks under Lenin’s reign during the Russian Revolution. They escaped to Canada to raise their family and future generations in a land that is strong and free. A land free from dictatorship. These are the words that George, my great, great, great grandfather’s son, spoke to his children. “Remind your children of our exodus, because our Heavenly Father performed such incredible miracles for us that you may be blessed being born in Canada, land of the free.”

George and his family saw Canada as a land filled with milk and honey. They saw it as the Promised Land when they escaped the tyranny of Lenin. What happened to them was their Egypt and I am so thankful that God led them out of Russia and into Canada. It saddens my heart to see everything that my ancestors escaped from pounding on our country’s door where the US President is threatening to take over our country and other countries as well. Surely, I am not the only one who sees the parallels with Hitler seizing sovereign countries. All the signs are there, repeating themselves.

Similarities Between Past and Present

Hitler used bullying, manipulation and extortion to quietly take over countries, breaking the Versailles agreement without any countries stepping in – all under the promise of making Germany great again and to make the world a Third Reich. Anyone who opposed him was silenced and anyone who didn’t meet the qualifications of being pure blood was thrown out and killed. These included: Jews, people with disabilities, the elderly, the sick, Roma and Sinti, Christians who stood against him and other groups and races.

A similar thing happened with Trump where he promised to make America great again. He used concentration camps like the wall he built between the States and Mexico throwing families from Mexico into internment camps separating thousands of children from their parents. Even to this day, many are still not reunited with their families. Anyone who is not considered American by his standard is automatically deported, even those who have gained their American status legally, have been born in America etc . . . These are just a few of the similarities between these two autocrats.

Call To Action

My ancestors fought hard to escape from a dictatorship, in this case Lenin, so their future generations wouldn’t have to suffer like they did. It was amazing to see Canada rising up to take a stand this last month. Let’s continue to stand and fight and remember that our nation is known for being strong and free. Let’s continue to fight for our freedom not just on an international front but in our own country as well. This is the prayer of George, my great, great, great grandfather’s son:

“Now dear Heavenly Father, this is my inner most desire and prayer for this land of ours. God bless our Canada, land that we love, stand beside her and guide her through the night with the light from above; from the mountains to the prairies, to the oceans white with foam. God bless Canada, our home sweet home.”

I invite you to pray for our leaders both in Canada and the US that they will be able to rule justly with love, patience, humility, wisdom, and truth. That they will be faithful in following through on the promises they have made to the people, and if there is any deception in the government that it will be exposed.
