Withstanding the Fiery Furnace

A man’s faith is put to the test when secrets, war, and revolution tear his family apart.

Jacob sees no reason to fear as the Great War heats up Eastern Europe. But a secret from his past threatens their peaceful household. As tensions increase in his family and church, so does the political landscape. The war has brought not just hardship but revolution.

As members of the upper class, Jacob and his family become prime targets for the Bolsheviks and anarchists. Will they escape the implacable foes that seek to destroy them and manage to repair their own tattered relationships?

Withstanding the Fiery Furnace is based on real-life experiences of the author’s great-great-great grandfather. Set against the backdrop of World War I and the Russian Revolution, this story recounts the struggles Jacob and his family faced and how their faith guided them on a path to wholeness.

Melanie C: This historical fiction novel had me hanging off the edge of my seat from page 1! It is well researched, well written and engaging. I love historical fiction generally, but this novel was all the more inspiring knowing that it was based on the true story of the author’s ancestors. I highly recommend this for anyone who is looking for a book they cannot set down, and I’m looking forward to reading the author’s next novel!

Michelle Becker: A heartfelt written family history. So often we forget the stories our grandparents, or even great grandparents told us, and the history is lost forever. But Jaimee digs deep and shares the trials, tribulations, and successes of her ancestors. Evocative descriptions of all that Jacob Wall and his family went through fighting the Bolsheviks will make you feel like you are there right alongside them. Journey with them from Ukraine to Canada and learn the lessons of history all while enjoying this wonderful book.

Lori Palmer (author): This book is a dramatic reenactment of Jaimee Pifer’s family origin story. It tells why the family of Jacob Wall left Ukraine for Canada after their maltreatment at the hands of the Bolsheviks and anarchists. Jacob, his wife Maria, and seven of their eight children moved frequently in flight for their lives after their property was confiscated. Two of their sons joined the White Army to try to defend their countrymen and way of life. The vivid descriptions and adept storytelling make the historical events come to life and we alternatively feel both sympathy and hope as the story unfolds. Jacob’s love for his family and his faith in God keep him going in the face of insurmountable odds. The story is both riveting and fascinating.

Dorothy: The story drew me in, to love the characters and feel with them. A story of listening to your faith and finding the right path through a most turbulent time.
